Appreciate the Traverse City Record-Eagle for its coverage of the significant construction work happening across our district this summer.

These projects are substantial.

From major district-wide energy efficiency upgrades to the Central Grade School relocation and renovation work to ongoing traffic and safety improvements at West Senior High.

They reflect long-term investments in the spaces where students learn, staff work, and our community comes together.

At the same time, these facilities projects are not the mission themselves—they are in service of the mission*.

As we move into implementing our new 5-year Strategic Plan and 2030 Vision*, we are also taking on equally important work that doesn’t show up in concrete and steel:

Including improving math and reading outcomes, and closing opportunity gaps for students who have been historically underserved, including our kids living in or near poverty.

That commitment, to ensure every student has access to strong instruction, meaningful support, and a clear pathway to success, is at the center of this work.

Buildings matter because our kids matter.

Investments in infrastructure and investments in learning are not competing priorities; they are connected responsibilities in our work to relentlessly build an educational community where every one of our kids can thrive.
