One of the things I appreciate most about our community is the way organizations come together to support our children and families.

This week, the Father Fred Foundation kicked off its BOOST and SHINE summer food programs, helping ensure that students continue to have access to food and basic necessities when school is out.

I’m especially grateful for the SHINE partnership between Father Fred Foundation, our Student Support Network, and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

Through our weekly Sunshine bus deliveries, food and hygiene supplies reach students experiencing food insecurity and other challenges throughout the summer months.

Our new 2030 Vision* recognizes that student success is about more than what happens in a classroom – reading proficiency, math achievement, attendance, graduation rates, belonging, health, and wellbeing are all connected.

For our students furthest from opportunity, access to nutritious food, stable support systems, and caring adults can make an enormous difference.

Thank you to Father Fred Foundation, the Grand Traverse Band and all of the partners making this important work possible.

This is what community partnership looks like—and it’s helping ensure every one of our kids has the opportunity to thrive.
