Strong readers grow in strong communities.
One of the most powerful literacy partnerships we have is with the Traverse Area District Library.
During Reading Month, their youth services team works closely with our eleven elementary schools to create meaningful reading experiences for our students.
This year, first graders are participating in library orientations, storytime, tours, and a scavenger hunt—helping students feel confident navigating their community library.
And the best part: every student left with a free book to keep.
Partnerships like this matter.
When schools and libraries work together, we expand access to books, build excitement around reading, and help more students develop the literacy skills they need to thrive.
Grateful for the incredible librarians, educators, and volunteers who make Reading Month such a special tradition for kids across our community.

“Last week Ms. Trillet’s class started CKLA Unit 5: Plants! On Friday, they did a craft that helped the kiddos to make connections to the different parts of a plant. Using coffee grounds for soil, yarn for the roots, a pipe cleaner as a stem, tissue paper for leaves, a muffin liner for the petals, and a sprinkle of everything-but-the-bagel seasoning as seeds, the kiddos created flowers to be hung in our classroom!”
