Last week, our school board took an important first step in bringing our new 2030 Strategic Vision* to life.
Year One matters.
It’s where vision turns into action that will carry us forward over the next five years.
Our focus for our superintendent in this first year is clear:
Early Literacy: Improving elementary reading outcomes.
Middle School Math: Improving 8th-grade math outcomes.
Student Connectedness: Expanding access to after-school and summer enrichment opportunities.
Career & Community Pathways: Growing regional partnerships that connect learning to real-world opportunities and local industries.
Leadership & Innovation: Developing future leaders and fostering a culture where staff are empowered to grow and innovate.
This first year reflects a shift toward outcome-based accountability.
With stabilized enrollment, improving finances, dedicated and talented educators and school staff, and an ambitious five-year vision, we’re in a strong position to move from steadying the ship to improving outcomes for all.
Full speed ahead.
I’m grateful to my school board colleagues and our community for supporting this long-term, measurable, student-centered work.

Cute photo of some Word Chaining in action?
Word Chaining “is a fast-paced “mental gymnastics” game for the brain. We start with a word like cat, and by changing just one sound at a time, we transform it: cat → can → fan → fin.
Why it’s a Game-Changer:
– Phonemic Awareness: It trains the ear to hear the tiny differences between sounds.
– Decoding Speed: It builds the “muscle memory” needed to recognize patterns instantly.
– Confidence: Using our Word Chaining Folders, students get hands-on practice manipulating letters, turning “scary” big words into a series of small, manageable shifts.
Our students are proving that building literacy is all about making the right connections!”
