As Washington steps back and Michigan rolls out new statewide requirements to ensure English learners receive dedicated instructional time, TCAPS is stepping up our support for students and families.
State Superintendent Michael Rice has made clear that while federal protections may feel uncertain, Michigan’s commitment to fairness, access, and inclusion remains strong—and we’re proud to reflect that locally.
This year, our English Learner program is making exciting improvements, including:
- Adding five elementary English as a Second Language teachers across our schools
- Launching a new system to better share student progress with families and teachers
- Using a new program, Language Studio, designed to support English learners
- Creating a tool to track student growth more closely
- Continuing the support of our wonderful family liaisons: Alicja Power (Ukrainian and Russian-speaking families) and Dibi Craig (Spanish-speaking families)
- Welcoming Teri Banish, who will provide extra program support
We’re proud to serve students and families through our English Learner program—and we’re looking forward to an amazing year of growth and connection. 💫
