The #1 Job of a School Board is…

Happy (early) spring break to all those who celebrate.

According to the Michigan Association of School Boards, the primary function of a board of education “is to oversee the education of students in the community.”

Big thanks to those who supported our school board Tuesday night by attending/speaking/writing on behalf of more equitable education.

Public support to help make sure that every TCAPS child (especially our kids who are furthest from opportunity) has what they need to succeed is critical.

📺You can watch Tuesday’s study session on educational equity and closing our student achievement gaps on YouTube HERE.

And here’s the study session’s presentation if you’re curious (my favorite slide is #4).

I am grateful for organizations like the United Way of Northwest Michigan, which are helping local working families living in or near poverty.

I am also grateful to TCAPS for considering policies, budget allocations, and strategic plan goals that prioritize closing income-based student achievement gaps and raising outcomes for all our kids.

Because education, of course, is the passport out of the cycle of poverty.

What’s next?

Save the date: The first meeting on our new (and important) district strategic plan is Monday, April 7th at 6pm (you can sign up to have board meeting packets emailed to you HERE).

Please keep showing up.

Have a safe and relaxing break.

~ Ty
