A Special Moral And Ethical Imperative

Originally published in the February Newsletter.

At last month’s school board meeting, we approved our Standards of Practice which includes this line:

“Understand that we have a special moral and ethical imperative to serve each student and that we will equitably allocate resources based on student need.”

While this statement is second from the bottom on the document, I was assured that it was no less important than those above it.

As a district, we have a lot to be proud of when it comes to supporting our students who are furthest from opportunity.

But if you’ve reviewed our 2024 Annual Education Report, released in January, you’ve seen the stark realities facing our economically disadvantaged kids.

This Monday, our school board will discuss creating an educational equity ad hoc committee – an important step toward meaningful, district-wide solutions to ensure all of our students have access to the opportunities they need to succeed.

Here’s Monday’s meeting packet.

I’m committed to making sure we’re doing all we can to help level the playing field for our kids who are furthest from opportunity.
