A turning point for our schools: Enrollment not down for first time since 2019

For the first time since 2019, our enrollment is not declining.

After six straight years of losing students, we are finally seeing stability.

That matters.

Since 2017/18, TCAPS has lost more than 1,100 students. Year after year, our numbers went down. Fewer students meant fewer resources and more pressure on classrooms and programs.

This year, that trend has paused.

We’re not celebrating a surge. We’re celebrating something just as important: we stopped the slide.

It means:

✔️ More families are choosing to stay

✔️ Our programs are meeting real needs

✔️ Trust in our schools is growing

✔️ Staff and educators’ hard work is paying off

When I was campaigning in 2024, I said enrollment had to be a bigger focus. Not because numbers are everything—but because stability is essential for strong schools.

This is an early sign that the work matters.

We still have more to do:

• Strengthen community connections

• Invest in safe, modern schools

• Expand early childhood opportunities

• Improve culture and climate

• Tell our story better

But today, this is worth recognizing.

After years of decline, we’ve reached a moment of stability.

That’s progress.

That’s momentum.

And it’s something we can build on—together.

Let’s keep going.
