Building schools for happy, healthy, ready-to-learn kids—not car line and parking convenience—isn’t just about walking or biking or exercise.
It’s a proven way to support the goals just outlined in our new strategic plan:
• Student Achievement
• Student Behavior
• Student and Staff Wellbeing
As we invest millions this summer into parking lots and turning lanes—and continue to spend energy making car lines and parking more convenient—let’s also invest time in reviewing and updating our district’s active transportation, Safe Routes to School, and school siting policies, practices and guidelines.
Because our kids (and staff) who choose to walk, bike, roll, or Park & Stroll* to school—or to their neighborhood bus stop—deserve to feel safe, seen, and supported too.
